If you’re looking for a playful and sexy couple’s session like this for your engagement (or just because!), please reach out! I had so much fun with Haley and Brad for their Lake Norman, North Carolina engagement session. They wanted something a bit different—photos that authentically reflect their personality—so this was the perfect option. A dual date and photoshoot is a great way to go to get stunning images. I always love when couples are down for some creative engagement photo ideas.
Even better, this location is extra special for them. Haley’s dad lives on Lake Norman near Cornelius, North Carolina, and this is the home where she grew up. It’s filled with sweet memories. And now, it provides a nostalgic backdrop as she embarks on the next chapter of her life: saying “yes!” to her best friend and soulmate.
Document the Journey
I love the dynamics of their relationship. Haley and Brad are clearly in love, but they also enjoy just having fun together. They donned their swimsuits, threw off their shoes, and took the jump together. Now, they have a few sweet photos for their save the dates and wedding displays; but they also have some just for the two of them to enjoy together. I know these photos will be some of their favorites as time goes on since it so accurately depicts their relationship. This is where it all began!
Not to mention how incredibly photogenic these two are! Wow! They weren’t shy in front of the camera, and they naturally fell into some of these magazine-worthy shots. I had a blast letting my creativity run wild with this one, capturing both lifestyle/photojournalistic photos and some great editorial shots, too. I love the diversity in this collection, and I think they love the results as much as I do! Cheers, Haley and Brad!
5 Creative Ideas for Engagement Photos
1. Bring Your Pup and Picnic
For a relaxed, outdoor vibe, bring along your four-legged friend and pack a picnic lunch inside a wicker basket. Spread out a pretty picnic blanket, and get some fresh air. Depending on the location, you can pop some champagne, too! These make adorable save the dates.
2. Try a At-Home Lifestyle Shoot
If staying at home in your fuzzy socks sounds more like you, intimate at-home sessions are super cute. For props (and extra cozy feel), you could brew some coffee, make popcorn for movie night on the couch, or bring out the vino! Whatever floats your boat.
3. Go Somewhere Nostalgic
Like Hailey and Brad, take it back to your childhood home, the place you first met, or your favorite date spot.
4. Go to an Amusement Park or Carnival
Even if you aren’t a thrill ride fanatic, the lights and colors of an amusement park (like Carowinds in Charlotte) create a fun and unique theme for your shoot.
For instance, you might take photos in front of (or on!) the carousel. You can do lots of amazing shots with a Farris wheel, rides, slides, balloons, cotton candy, and old-fashioned food stands.
5. Share an Experience Together
Let me take photos while you do something fun together. Go ice or roller skating, swimming, hiking, window shopping downtown, brunching/dining, fishing, canoeing—the possibilities are endless. Pick an activity and scene that you enjoy together.
