Equal parts sexy and sweet, this gorgeous engagement session couldn’t have gone any better. As a Charlotte NC engagement photographer, I was honored to capture this sweet part of their story.

Megan and Cory just tied the knot in Punta Cana with a quick elopement. (After a year dealing with the pandemic, they were just ready to be husband and wife—and what better place to say, “I do” than on the carefree shores of Punta Cana?)

But, before their blissful getaway, they decided to do a local engagement session in Charlotte, NC where they live. Their vision for the session: to showcase their one-of-a-kind love. So, we went to Freedom Park for their engagement session. The park has a range of diverse natural backdrops to use, and it was the perfect setting for the relaxed session!

The park seemed extra lush and vibrant on this particular day. In addition to the pretty foliage and greenery, the park features both a swinging bridge and stone bridge that goes out to an island on the pond. Both lent themselves well to Megan and Cory’s very intimate shoot. I loved that they were not afraid to let go and be themselves. So, they were able to be these very intimate shots. They weren’t camera shy, and they had no problem doing their thing while I gently directed. The results were fantastic!

Carefree Engagement Sessions at Freedom Park | Charlotte NC Engagement Photographer
However, for those who do feel a bit shy in front of the lens, Freedom Park is the ideal location for an engagement session. Nature has a way of calming nerves, and it’s easier to relax as you walk around and explore the trails. Basically, it doesn’t feel as awkward. You have space to move around instead of feeling cooped up in a studio with the lights and camera pointed at you. Park settings are great for authentic and romantic engagement shoots like Megan and Cory’s.

3 Reasons Why You Need an Engagement Session:
Still on the fence about doing an engagement session? I say go for it!
1. Tell Your Story.
Believe it or not, your story doesn’t actually begin on your wedding day. It begins well before that. An engagement session captures the exciting phase of your journey together that leads up to your big day. Plus, your engagement photos may be the first professional photos you have together.
They’re perfect for warming up the walls of your home, sending out save the dates, displaying at your wedding, and starting a photo album of your lives together.

2. Start a Seamless Collection of Photos.
Wedding photos display beautifully, and I’m sure you’ll want to hang them in your home. However, wedding photos tend to be pretty formal (you know, given the dress and all). Engagement photos give you a wider range of styles to display. You’ll have some fun, flirty, and casual photos of the two of you PLUS your amazing wedding photos.
And, if you book the same photographer for your engagement and wedding, all of your photos will have a seamless and balanced look. From “Will you?” to “I do!,” I would love to help you capture it all from start to finish.

3. It’s Fun!
Take a break from the wedding planning, and schedule a date for an engagement shoot. An engagement session allows you to set aside time and prioritize quality time together, even when life gets hectic.
Since you’ll be doing a lot of hugging and staring into each other’s eyes, it forces you to slow down and reconnect with each other. Plus, you’ll get great photos out of it! Then, keep the date going with dinner and a movie after!
