These two lovebirds are getting married this fall, but before we get to that, I couldn’t wait to share their sweet story and some engagement photos from Boone, NC with you.

Andrew and Kara met through her best friend and roommate at Appalachian State, and his family lives in the area as well. In fact, Andrew’s aunt is the one who referred me to them for their engagement session.

*Side Note: His aunt, Hannah Hunt, is the owner of Golden Thistle Design, a premier florist in Boone, NC. Her daughter Erin runs the business with her, and their designs are absolutely incredible. I’ve worked with them on several occasions and can attest to their gorgeous creations, and they are wonderful to work with. They have a knack for catching your vision right away and knowing just how to carry it out. I highly recommend them!

Anyway, I am so glad Hannah and Erin connected me with Kara and Andrew because we clicked right away. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in a few months (which you won’t want to miss because the area around Boone, NC lends itself to the most colorful fall weddings you’ve ever seen)! Stay tuned for that later this year.

Popping the Question in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Although their wedding plans are moving along without a hitch, the proposal wasn’t quite as smooth. However, Kara had no idea that his master plan was unraveling.

Andrew wanted to propose where they had their first date and hike to some of the most stunning cliffs off of Blue Ridge Parkway. He knew she was the one when they met, and in his mind, he knew he’d bring her there to propose.

However, it didn’t go quite as planned. He got turned around on the parkway trying to get to the spot. Then, they couldn’t remember the name of the overlook much less how to find it. He brought his film camera so she could look out over the mountains, and he could be on one knee ready to propose when she turned around.

But, as you might expect, it didn’t quite unfold the way he pictured in his mind. Nevertheless, he found his moment, and it was sweeter than ever. Of course she responded with a heartfelt, “Yes!,” and they FaceTimed all of their friends and family right there on the mountainside to share the exciting news.
Boone, NC Mountainside Engagement Session
Their engagement session near Boone, NC looked like scenes from a romantic movie. The colorful mountains, golden sunlight, and warm blanket to watch the sun go down offered everything for a beautiful engagement shoot. It’s not hard to get great candids in the Appalachian mountain; it’s easy to forget about the camera when you’re staring out across the horizon.

Kara and Andrew danced, laughed, and snuggled in close until the sun set, then we got a few last shots with them dancing in front of the headlights (which she had the perfect dress for)!
Congrats, Kara and Andrew! See you in a couple months.
